International Workers day, also known as Labour day in most countries was chosen by the Federation of Labour in America to continue an earlier campaign for eight hours working time which had been the cause of a general strike on 1st May 1886. Contractors have begun the track laying on the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail corridor. The corridor will connect Rivers state, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe and Bornu states by rail. The revolution to connect Nigeria by rail through the narrow and standard gauge is ongoing. It behoves on all Nigerians to see this cause as something to be supported as it will boost economic development, tourism, and reduce road accidents on the roads. The Federal Government should do all in its powers to secure all the rail tracks and equipment of Nigerian Railway Corporation all over the country. Surveillance should not be only on the standard gauge but also accross all the narrow gauge.  Rail transport is not only safer but cheaper, and all efforts should be made to sustain this.

President Muhammadu Buhari has embarked on another trip for three weeks in London, the United Kingdom. Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, who disclosed this in a statement said Buhari would return to the country after the vacation to commission some projects.   He is expected to return to Nigeria on May 10th, 2022. “At the end of the visit, President Buhari will be proceeding to his country home Daura where he will commission developmental projects especially in the  education, healthcare and roads sectors.  This marks the second vacation Buhari will embark on this year.

Afolabi Oyekunle. The Federal Government  is investigating the cause of the collapse of the National grid. The grid collapsed on Friday night, April 8, plunging the nation into darkness. In a statement released on Saturday, April 9, the Ministry of Power said efforts were in place to tackle the problem. It said the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the operator of the national grid, is in the process of restoring supply. "We wish to notify the general public of the incidence of a system collapse which occurred at 1830hrs on April 8th, 2022 resulting in power outages in many parts of the country. While a detailed investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the recurring grid failure is currently ongoing by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and System Operator (the operator of the national grid), the process of restoring supply is ongoing with some sections of the national grid already energised and supply restored to consumers.” W...

The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has declared his interest to contest the 2023 Presidential election on the platform of All Progressives Congress. Amaechi, while declaring his interest today  at Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt, venue of the Rivers APC Thanksgiving service said, “I stand before you today to declare my intention and submit my application to serve as your next President.” There has been rumours that the Minister will join the presidential race which he has always denied.
